What’s the title of the first episode of Stranger Things Season 5?

During Stranger Things Day 2022, the title of Season 5’s opening episode was revealed as “The Crawl.” This announcement has likely sparked a wave of theories and questions among fans: What does “The Crawl” refer to? Who might be doing the crawling? What is the reason behind their crawling? And importantly, where is their destination?

The writers of Stranger Things commenced work on Season 5 on August 2, 2022, nearly one month following the debut of Season 4, Volume 2. Since then, they have generously provided fans with regular updates on the progress of Season 5’s writing journey. This includes initiating the grid stage for each episode on August 25, 2022, and finalizing the grid on September 20, 2022.

What’s Stranger Things Season 5 about? Series creators Matt and Ross Duffer shared with Tudum that during Season 1, they composed a detailed 25-page document for Netflix, unraveling the mythology and lore surrounding the Upside Down. “We were like, ‘We know what’s happening in the Upside Down, more or less, but we want it to remain unfathomable. We desire its mystery to be preserved,'” Matt Duffer elaborated. “However, Netflix requested, ‘Yeah, but can you document it?’ So, we put it all on paper.”

Although Season 4 has significantly expanded the audience’s understanding of the Upside Down, more revelations are promised for Season 5. “The final unanswered questions detailed in that document, we’ve deferred some of those for major reveals in Season 5,” Ross Duffer mentioned during Geeked Week in June 2022. “And those revelations are going to critically shape what Season 5 will entail.”
