Yellowstone’s Fifth Season Resumes Filming: A Promising Update
Ian Bohen, known for his role as ranch hand Ryan in the Western drama series Yellowstone, recently shared insights into the expected resumption of filming for the latter half of Season 5.
In a conversation with Entertainment Tonight, Bohen disclosed the anticipated timeline for the production of the final six episodes. “We’re looking to head back in May, from what I’ve heard. So, filming through the summer, and aiming for a premiere around November. Though, it might slide into June… We’re shooting six episodes,” he elaborated. Bohen hinted at a possible return to screens by “November or maybe December,” with the season potentially extending into the holiday period, concluding around the time of the Super Bowl. Reflecting on the experience, he added, “It’s like spending six to eight years in college and grad school with the same group. It’s hard to imagine what comes next. It feels a bit empty, so I’m planning to make the most of every moment.”
These comments follow an update from Luke Grimes, another Yellowstone lead, who in July 2023 mentioned that the strikes by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) had paused production. “We’d likely be filming now if not for the strikes. They take priority. Once resolved, we’ll jump back in,” he explained. Initially, the second part of Season 5 was slated for a summer 2023 release on the Paramount Network but faced delays due to scheduling issues with Kevin Costner, a key cast member.
Despite a significant hiatus since the Dutton family’s last appearance on TV, Bohen assured fans of the show’s worthwhile continuation, avoiding any discussion of behind-the-scenes controversies. “Despite the rumors and departures, the essence of the show remains intact,” he stated. “The bond we’ve formed, both on and off-screen, enriches the journey towards a fulfilling conclusion. We’re focused on cherishing the remaining time.” He also expressed confidence in the series creator, Taylor Sheridan, to deliver a satisfying conclusion, appreciating the audience’s patience.
With the impending conclusion of Yellowstone in its fifth season, Sheridan is crafting a sequel series, tentatively named 2024, to carry on the Dutton family saga into the present day. Matthew McConaughey is being considered for a leading role, contingent on his approval of the scripts, while Michelle Pfeiffer is in discussions for a prominent female role. The aim is to retain much of the original Yellowstone cast for this next chapter.
