Stranger Things Star Shares His Drastic Show Change

Gaten Matarazzo, known for his role in Netflix’s Stranger Things, has suggested a drastic alteration to elevate the series’ impact. At a panel discussion during Mega Con Orlando, the actor expressed that incorporating more character deaths could significantly enhance the show by preventing audiences from feeling too secure about the survival of their beloved characters.

“It might sound messed up but we should k*ll more people,” Matarazzo responded to a fan question asking if he would make any changes to the show (via CBR).

“This show would be so much better if the stakes were much higher, like at any moment any of these kids can kick it. I feel like we’re all too safe.”

Although Matarazzo suggests that the show tends to protect its most cherished characters, Stranger Things has not shied away from heart-wrenching moments and the demise of key figures throughout its four seasons.

The first season left audiences in shock with the unexpected death of Barb, portrayed by Shannon Purser, sparking the viral #JusticeForBarb movement in tribute to her character.

The end of the fourth season, particularly in its second volume, witnessed the heroic death of Eddie Munson, a character brought to life by Joseph Quinn, adding to the show’s list of poignant losses.

Nevertheless, Matarazzo’s desire for a higher stakes narrative may yet be fulfilled. With the fifth and concluding season of the series, crafted by the Duffer brothers, on the horizon and production moving forward after significant delays caused by industry strikes, there remains ample opportunity for more unexpected character exits.
