The Rookie’ Hits the Century Mark: Celebrating 100 Episodes

“The Rookie” is an American police procedural drama television series that premiered on ABC on October 16, 2018. Created by Alexi Hawley, the show is inspired by a true story and follows John Nolan, a man in his forties who becomes the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) after experiencing a life-altering incident that drives him to pursue a career in law enforcement.

The series stars Nathan Fillion as John Nolan, who is surrounded by a diverse cast of characters within the department, each with their unique background and approach to policing. The show explores the challenges Nolan faces as an older rookie, balancing the physical demands of the job with the complexities of navigating a new career alongside much younger peers and skeptical superiors.

The Rookie’ recently celebrated the filming of its 100th episode, a significant achievement in the current television landscape. ‘In the entertainment industry, reaching a milestone like this is extraordinary. From a pilot being produced, to actually airing, and then lasting beyond two years, the odds are quite slim,’ Nathan Fillion shared with On The Red Carpet. ‘So, I’m both incredibly surprised and delighted.

Richard T. Jones, who’s been on the show since it’s first episode in 2018 weighed in on the show’s success, “what made us stay around is the writing and directing,” adding “this crew is just phenomenal it’s a pleasure to come to work.”

The team is hard at work on season 6, and according to Fillion it’s business as usual, “We do have a recipe for success, and that means whenever the radio goes off you never know what it’s going to be, something lighthearted and funny, or something intensely serious.”

Catch “The Rookie” Tuesday nights on ABC at 9/8C and streaming the next day on Hulu. Disney is the parent company of ABC, Hulu, and this station.
