Life After NCIS: Tracking the Careers of Mark Harmon, Michael Weatherly, Pauley Perrette, and Others Post-Exit

Mark Harmon‘s departure from NCIS in 2021 marked the end of an era for fans, as the beloved actor wrapped up nearly two decades as the show’s cornerstone, Leroy Jethro Gibbs. Harmon’s character chose a serene retirement in Alaska during the fourth episode of season 19, following the conclusion of his final case.

Post Harmon’s exit, Steve Binder, the show’s executive producer, hinted at a potential return for Gibbs, suggesting fans should “never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out.” Harmon himself has since hinted at exploring new ventures, including a non-fiction book drawing from his experiences on NCIS.

Sasha Alexander, known for her role as Caitlin Todd in the first two seasons, left viewers stunned with her character’s abrupt exit. Alexander has openly discussed her decision to leave, citing various undisclosed reasons. Post-NCIS, she’s thrived in television, with roles in Rizzoli & Isles, Shameless, Law and Order, and Curb Your Enthusiasm, even directing an episode of Bull, featuring Michael Weatherly.

Michael Weatherly‘s departure after 13 seasons as Anthony DiNozzo in 2016 opened new opportunities for him. Shortly after leaving NCIS, Weatherly starred in Bull, inspired by Dr. Phil’s early career. Following the show’s conclusion in 2022, Weatherly has expressed interest in reprising his role as Tony DiNozzo.

Pauley Perrette‘s exit in 2018 as Abby Sciuto was unexpected, fueled by off-screen tensions with Harmon after a distressing incident involving his dog. Though Perrette starred in the sitcom Broke, she announced her retirement from acting in 2020, now enjoying a quieter life shared with her Instagram followers.

Cote de Pablo‘s character, Ziva David, was presumed dead until a surprising return in season 16, revealing she had faked her death. After a brief stint in season 17, de Pablo exited again, with her off-screen career including roles in The 33 and The Last Rites of Ransom Pride, and producing work on MIA.

British actor Duane Henry‘s journey as MI6 agent Henry Reeves ended in season 14, a decision following the death of the showrunner who introduced his character. Henry described his exit as “the best exit,” transitioning to roles in Captain Marvel and various Hallmark and Lifetime movies, showcasing the dynamic paths NCIS alumni have embarked upon post-show.
