Heroic Moments: Firefighter Comforts Lost Dog Amid LA Wildfires
As wildfires swept through Los Angeles, California firefighters bravely fought flames, including the Eaton Fire, which impacted neighborhoods in Pasadena and Altadena. On January 8th, ABC World News Tonight shared viral footage showing a touching moment: a firefighter battling flames with one hand while comforting a lost dog with the other.
The video, posted on TikTok, shows the dog walking out from burning homes in Altadena. A firefighter spotted the frightened animal, called it over, and gently patted its head to provide comfort.
ABC World News later reported that the dog, named Max, was rescued by Chris Abkarian, a dog trainer with the Whittier Dog Club. Chris braved the blaze to save Max, with help from first responders, and brought him to safety at his facility.
The video touched social media users, who praised the firefighter as a “real hero” and expressed sympathy for the people and pets affected by the fire.
Pasadena Humane shared on January 10 that they’ve taken in over 400 animals due to the fire. They wrote on Facebook: “As the Eaton Fire devastates our community, we need your support more than ever to care for animals who are lost, injured, and displaced. Thank you for standing with us during this challenging time.”
